Attari Border Quarantine, Amritsar

1.Organization introduction and Background information:
Attari Border Quarantine, Amritsar is a subordinate office of Director General of Health Services   under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare incepted/opened in the year 1979. There are 3 points of entry which are to be looked after/health staff to be deployed for the health check work of incoming passengers. The 3 points of entry are :-

  1. INTEGRATED CHECK POST ATTARI, (Wagha  road border),
  2. ATTARI RAILWAY STATION  ( International )
  3.  SRI GURU RAM DAS JEE international airport, Amritsar.

OBJECTS AHD GOALS OF THE OFFICE:- The prime aim of Airport and Border Quarantine, Amritsar is to prevent any infectious disease entering into our country which is not prevalent in India e.g. Yellow Fever, SARS. Swine Flu. This list is going to be lengthened in future with incidence of new diseases. The first priority will be to keep airport and other outlets as neat and clean. Meaningful interaction with other agencies will be a key factor strategy implementation of International Health Regulations, 2005.

Location:- ABQ, Amritsar has its main office at Amritsar. It looks after the Attari Railway Station. Wagha Road Border which are situated at 30 kms South West of Amritsar. International Airport, Amritsar 12 kms North West of Amritsar. Rail Cargo 3 kms from
Administrative office ABQ situated centrally in Amritsar.

Services/Activities:- There are four international entry points under ABQ, Amritsar e.g. Attari Rly. Station, Wagha Road Border, International Airport Amritsar & Rail cargo Amritsar. Major activities of organization are as follows:-

  1. Health Check of passengers referred by Immigration authorities at International Airport, Wagha Road Border and Attari Railway Station.
  2. Surveillance of the aircraft disinsection details are undertaken for all incoming international flights by examination of general declaration of health and passenger manifesto submitted by the crew at the time of arrival to the airport Health Organization. Same procedure is followed at Attari Railway station and at ICP Attari (Wagha Border).
  3. Supervision of sanitation, drinking water supply and anti mosquito and anti rodent measures at all international check points.
  4. Dead body clearance
  5. Quarantine of yellow fever suspects and passengers falling under definition of PHEIC.
  6. To attend the aircraft emergencies.
  7. Inspection of food stuff & catering arrangement under FSSAI, 2006
  8. Samples of imported food items whenever referred to ABQ Health Officer by the customs  authorities. (Samples are drawn by customs at their discretion).
  9. Education of Immigration Officials at the airport, Attari Rail, Wagha Check post.
  10. There is no other medical agency at the airport or Attari Rail or at Wagha Check post. So ABQ Health Organization provide medical care to needy passengers and attend medical emergencies on humanitarian grounds whenever requests by customs or security agencies.
  11. Health official also attend sick passengers whenever they report to MO, it is done in view of disease surveillance and on humanitarian ground.
  12. Provide help to Distt. Health Authorities for implementing National Health programme at international entry points viz. Polio prevention.
